It was a perfect day to look for birds and wildflowers, and buy native plants. We didn't even leave the parking lot before hearing Field Sparrows, Barred Owl, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. Here's one of two Brown Thrashers found near the pond (photo by Kye Jenkins):
Common Yellowthroats were singing throughout the meadow, and Zebra Swallowtails danced in front of us along the path. Ovenbirds and Hermit Thrush were found along the tree-lined paths. Adkins Arboretum is a 400-acre native garden and preserve and has a native plant sale every spring and fall. They also have a full calendar of adult and youth programs - be sure to visit them soon.
